Our story

Welcome to Contemporancient Theatre CIC

A professional theatre company formed by playwright, actor and director Vic Mills and poet, novelist and academic Professor Kevin Mills, to bring contemporary theatre, exploring the history of Wales, to small venues around South Wales, engaging communities in exploring their own stories, past and present.

We have been working throughout the pandemic, researching, developing and rehearsing new work. We have three pieces at various stages of preparation:

Elvis’ All Time Best Top Ten‘ – a musical farce about a somewhat dysfunctional Welsh family of Elvis tribute artists, preparing for their farewell show at The Elvis Festival Porthcawl. This piece is in the last stages of rehearsal and is expected to tour South Wales during 2022.

The ‘Price’ play – a theatre project that has been in preparation for quite a while – delayed by the pandemic – this piece tells about the life and work of the great Welsh philosopher and mathematician, Dr Richard Price of Llangeinor – a great figure for our own times, who fought for liberty, equality, freedom from slavery and for women’s rights. This work is set in the Garw Valley and will be performed in 2023 to celebrate Prices’ 300th anniversary.

The ‘Abergavenny’ project – this is in its early stages of planning – it will aim to tell the story of recusant Catholics hiding in ‘The Gunter House’ in Abergavenny in the early 17th century as well as looking at the stories and experience of contemporary refugees – from Syria – who are finding support in the community in the town today.
